what to expect - treatment room appointments
Once you've arrived at the treatment room (please see the Contact page for information on the address, directions and parking), your therapist will welcome you in and we will then go through a health consultation with you to find out what you would like to get from your treatment, what aches and pains you are experiencing and how your general health and wellbeing is. We will then talk through a plan for your massage so that we can make sure that your treatment is exactly what you'd like it to be.
Your therapist will leave the room while you get ready for your massage. Please just wear comfortable clothes for your appointment. For the pregnancy massage, your therapist will help you up onto the massage table and get you comfortable with pillows, bolsters and blankets. You will be covered with blankets and towels throughout your treatment and only the area we're working on will be exposed so your dignity will be protected at all times. Our main concern is that you are comfortable throughout your treatment and so if you need to move around, change position, pop to the loo or some element of the massage feels uncomfortable then please do say, we'll be very happy to make whatever adjustments are needed to keep you as comfortable as possible!
We will make sure that the room is warm and there will be relaxing music playing. If you prefer silence during your treatment then we're very happy to turn off the music and will only chat if you would like to.
At the end of your treatment you'll be offered a glass of water and are very welcome to take a seat in the reception area until you feel ready to face the outside world again.
what to expect - mobile appointments
Your therapist will arrive at your home with everything needed for your treatment - a massage table, oils, pillows, bolsters and fresh linens. All we ask is that you have enough space for us to give you your massage. Most people's living room will be ideal - just imagine a 6ft tall person lying down with their arms outstretched and that will give you a good idea of the space we need.
As we bring a lot of equipment with me, it is very helpful if you can let us know if there are any parking or access issues at your home. If you do live in an apartment block and there isn't parking available, unfortunately we won't be able to visit you at your home but we will be happy to welcome you for an appointment at the treatment room instead.

You don't need to wear anything special for your appointment, just comfy clothes or pyjamas!

You might also like to make sure that the room is warm and if you have any music that you love and helps you relax, please do feel free to have this on. We'll also bring a music player with a selection of relaxing meditation music that you can choose to have on during your treatment. And we'll only chat to you if you find that relaxing and so if you want to just close your eyes and drift off then that's absolutely fine!

your first appointment
Please allow an extra 10 -15 minutes in addition to your massage appointment time so that we can go through a full consultation with you. This will allow us to find out exactly what you want from your treatment and just check on things like allergies and any other health or wellbeing issues that may affect your massage.
If you have any health issues (even if they seem small), we'd really appreciate you mentioning these when you make your booking so we can have a chat with you about these before your treatment just in case we need to get medical approval for your massage to go ahead or so we can make sure that we can adapt your treatment to work with or around any health issues.
how to look after yourself after your massage
It is important to go gently after your massage treatment as your body can need time to adjust after your treatment. After your treatment, try to relax as much as possible and drink plenty water. You may occasionally feel some after-effects of your treatment and these can include:
- an increase in visits to the loo as your circulatory and lymphatic systems have been stimulated
- tiredness due to the release of toxins and the energy the body is using up to heal itself
- headache which may be a result of simulation of nerve fibres during the massage or dehydration if you don’t drink enough after your treatment
- muscular aches in the areas the treatment has focussed on
- thirstiness due to the increased action of the lymphatic system and
- heightened emotions due to the release of tension
You know your body best and so if you do feel mildly out of sorts please don’t worry; this should pass within 24-48 hours. However if you feel any unusual symptoms, abdominal or back pain or have any other symptoms that are concerning you then please do contact your midwife, GP or primary healthcare provider straight away.
We'll also talk through the main aftercare advice with you at the end of your treatment. If you aren't sure of anything then please just let us know.
